Onoville Marina Park is located on the beautiful Allegheny Reservoir, just north of the 514,029 acre Allegheny National Forest, and west of the 65,000 acre Allegany State Park in the Enchanted Mountains of New York. The Allegheny National Forest and Allegany State Park create one of the largest contiguous protected outdoor recreational areas in the entire Northeastern United States, with approximately 580,000 acres of contiguous public land. This vast wilderness area, in which Onoville Marina Park is located just outside of, provides a massive tract of land for outdoor recreational opportunities, such as hiking, camping, swimming, fishing, boating and paddling.

This region is home to the famous North Country National Scenic Trail, which streches over 4,800 miles from Vermont to North Dakota, making it the longest National Scenic Trail in the United States. Between the Allegany State Park, and the Allegheny National Forest there are hundreds of miles of hiking trails that bring hikers to waterfalls, vistas, and areas of vast wilderness solitude. Along the Allegheny Reservoir, there are several remote campsites administered by the US Forest Service that are only accessible by water access (boating or paddling), or hiking.

The Allegheny Reservoir is a hidden gem in New York, as it is one of the only large bodies of water in the state that has an almost entirely undeveloped shoreline. The undeveloped shoreline gives visitors a unique experience in Western New York, as most lake shorelines in the region are heavily developed. The beautiful wooded hillsides, with no development, provides an "unspoiled" atmosphere for visitors. Onoville Marina Park's location on the undeveloped 12,000 acre Allegheny Reservoir gives visitors a unique experience that cannot be found anywhere else in Western New York.
